Propagate names unscripted lead

Propagate Content, the US production company founded by Ben Silverman and Howard T Owens with backing from A+E Networks, has appointed a non-scripted content chief.

Laurie Girion

Laurie Girion has joined the LA-based firm as executive VP of non-scripted content and will oversee creative development and production of Propagate’s non-scripted programming.

She will report to chairman and co-CEO Silverman and co-CEO Owens and manage a team that includes Kevin Healy, who has been promoted to senior VP of entertainment and BP Jenkins, senior VP of development.

Girion has spent her career developing material in a series of overall deals with major studios including Fox TV Studios, CBS and Sony TV and independent production companies such as Pilgrim Media Group and Shed Media.

Her showrunning credits include Popstars, Wife Swap, Last Comic Standing, The Last Resort, Spouse Vs House, Dare to Wear and The Joy Project. She adapted the international formats Child Genius and, most recently, This Time Next Year for the US market.

Under her own Storyvision banner Girion created and executive produced the doc series Cheerleader Nation for Lifetime, comedic competition series Crowned: The Mother of All Pageants for The CW and documentary competition series Showville for AMC.

“We are bullish on the growth of unscripted and are committed to creating, developing, and producing the most interesting, culturally relevant stories for the widest possible audiences,” said Silverman and Owens in a joint statement.

Propagate is currently in production on shows including In Search Of, hosted and executive produced by Zachary Quinto for History. It is also teaming up with Project Runway executive producer Desiree Gruber for the reality series Labor of Love.

Propagate also plans to launch a podcast studio to develop and produce original podcasts. This comes after it acquired podcasts such as Lore, Up & Vanished and Sword & Scale to develop TV series from them.

It has also received its first straight-to-series scripted order for Blood & Treasure with CBS and is also working on a reboot of Charmed for The CW.
