Pressure Cooker heats up in Croatia

Jamie Oliver

MIPFORMATS: Croatian public broadcaster HRT has become the first international channel to pick up culinary competition format Pressure Cooker from BBC Studios in the UK.

The Croatian version of the show will air on free-to-air network HRT2, following the deal with the commercial and production arm of the UK pubcaster.

Based on an original format devised by Jamie Oliver Productions, the 43-part series, which is due to go into production this spring, pairs home cooks with celebrity chefs.

The duo must select ingredients from a specially designed conveyor belt that kicks in at timed intervals. Whatever ingredients they take, they must use to cook a tasty meal for an expert judge while working against the clock.

The show was originally picked up by BBC Studios (then known as BBC Worldwide) in 2014 having originally been produced by Bristow Global Media and Jamie’s Oliver’s Fresh One Productions for Corus’ W Network in Canada.

BBC Studios will be launching a number of new formats at MipTV in Cannes this week including the scripted format for Sister Pictures’ The Split.

Dating Detectives (from Zig Zag/CJ ENM/IMTV), meanwhile, sees real-life detectives help disastrous daters uncover their ideal partner using authentic investigation techniques and hidden-camera filming.

Also new to market is Couples on the Couch in which real-life couples bring their sexual and emotional issues to a specially created clinic, giving an eye-opening insight into the complex world of modern relationships.

Home Is Where the Art Is, meanwhile, has three very different artists compete for a commission from a mystery buyer.
