Pirate School sails on to UK screens

UK kids' broadcaster CBBC has come onboard a new toon being co-produced by Spanish animation house BRB Internacional and Santa-Barbara-based Foothill Entertainment.

Pirate School is based on the book by Colin McNaughton, and is aimed at kids 7-9. BRB and Foothill Entertainment, on behalf of Red Sky Entertainment, are to develop, produce and distribute the series.

Launching as a digital channel next month, CBBC has committed to 26 half-hours of the toon, plus an option for a further 26. The show follows the adventures of Captain Adbul and his crew of wannabe pirates, set aboard his galleon, the Golden Behind.

{Pirate School is the very first project that we undertook at Foothill,{ said Foothill's president Jo Kavanagh-Payne. {This will be the first of many such properties we co-develop with BRB.{

Distribution of the show will be split between the two outfits, with Foothill, set up in 2000 by ex-DIC execs, handling the English-speaking world while BRB handles the rest of the world. Both outfits will be at Natpe shopping the show.
