Pilot shows travel the world

Buyers from Hong Kong, Greece, Spain, Israel and Poland have all been shopping at UK production house Pilot Productions, despite “fierce” competition from other travel show producers.

ATV in Hong Kong and Viajar in Spain have both signed pre-sale agreements for new Pilot series Metropolis (6×30′), one of the indie’s travel-based documentaries which has been given an architectural twist.

The Hong Kong channel has also taken Globe Trekker series 13 (13×52′) and food-themed World Café Asia (13×26′), while Israeli pubcaster IBA took Globe Trekker series nine to 12. Globe Trekker was also sold to an undisclosed Korean net.

In Greece, ERT has acquired the rights to Treks in a Wild World, Pilot Globe Guides, Globe Trekker Specials as well as Bazaar, and in Poland, Telewizja Puls has secured both Globe Trekker series 11 and 12.

Pilot’s head of sales Eileen Pesah described competition within the travel sector of the global distribution market as “fierce,” but added that her shows enjoyed something of a “cult following” around the world.
