Pilgrim teams with World Surf League

Lionsgate-owned prodco Pilgrim Media has agreed a co-development deal with the World Surf League’s studio arm that will see the pair will produce surf-centric sport and lifestyle content.

Under the deal, Pilgrim Media and newly formed WSL Studios will produce both live and non-live unscripted projects, as well as a range of scripted content across all formats and platforms.

This will include traditional surf content such as contests and clip shows as well as programming that aims to shed light on surf culture, its social impact and environmental and conservation efforts.

In the pipeline already are a feature documentary and an unscripted competition format in partnership with the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s Dana White. Several other programmes are also in development.

Pilgrim founder and CEO Craig Piligian said: “This collaboration embodies the true intent of media in breaking ground and erasing boundaries. It’s about bringing to new audiences a sport and a way of life that has been geographically confined to ocean coastlines.”
