PBS Kids orders globetrotting series

PBS Kids has ordered an animated series from Canada’s 9 Story Media Group that encourages children to explore different cultures from around the globe.

Luna Around the World (38×30′) is created by animator, writer and artist Joe Murray and will premiere in the US during fall next year.

The series is aimed at four- to seven-year-olds and has a social studies curriculum that encourages viewers to explore and appreciate various different cultures while building global citizenship and social skills.

It follows the adventures of three friends: a wombat from Australia, a butterfly from Mexico and a frog from the US, as they traverse the globe with their parents’ travelling performance troupe.

“Our approach with Luna Around the World is to offer engaging stories and adventures that are fun, developmentally appropriate and align with our whole-child approach to content,” said Linda Simensky, VP of children’s programming at PBS.

“Luna is a trusted guide who will encourage children to learn about the world beyond their own neighbourhoods. The series seeks to foster an appreciation for cultural diversity, developing social and civic skills and promoting global stewardship.”

9 Story Distribution International is managing the distribution and merchandising rights for the show worldwide outside Canada.
