PBS adopts Blink’s pet projects

Dog Tales looks at the history of the animal from wild animal to family pet

US pubcaster PBS is to air two one-hour documentaries produced by UK prodco Blink Films revealing the history and secret lives of the world’s two favourite pets.

Dog Tales and Cat Tales each include interviews with geneticists, experts in animal behaviour, archaeologists, vets and scientists. They explore the history of the two species, from wild animals tens of thousands of years ago to today’s pets, and in particular how their relationship with humans has shaped their evolution and behaviours, as well as our own.

Dog Tales and Cat Tales premiere on February 12 and 19 respectively at 21.00 ET on PBS in the US as part of the channel’s Nova strand.

The writer and director is Pete Chinn, exec producers are Dan Chambers and Dan Gold for Blink Films. Julia Cort and Chris Schmidt are the exec producers for Nova.

Blink Films, a Tin Roof Media company, has also recently been commissioned to produce Meet The Chimps, a six-part natural history series for Disney+, and Unforgotten, a three-hour social history series for BBC2.
