Paramount TV appoints president

Viacom has appointed an executive from US producer Anonymous Content to fill the vacant position of president at Paramount TV, following Amy Powell’s sudden exit this summer.

Nicole Clemens

Nicole Clemens, a former series development exec at FX Networks who also used to work at talent agency ICM Partners, will work across development, production and programming for the studio

She will report to Paramount Pictures’ chairman and CEO Jim Gianopulos, starting September 10.

Clemens worked with Paramount TV through the first-look deal Anonymous has with the Viacom-backed company, and helped set up projects with companies including Apple, Netflix and Showtime. Her credits during her time at FX include Atlanta, Better Things and Snowfall.

She replaces Powell who was fired in July after it was alleged she made racially insensitive remarks, which she denies.

Powell had been with Paramount for five years and was behind an array of shows including The Alienist for TNT and Netflix’s hit drama 13 Reasons Why.

Gianopulos said Clemens “brings invaluable institutional experience and knowledge of all aspects of television from development to production to talent representation to programming.”

“Her excellent creative instincts, deep relationships throughout the industry and breadth of experience make her the ideal candidate for this role,” he added.

Clemens said: “While at Anonymous Content, I’ve had the privilege to work closely with the excellent Paramount Television team and experience first-hand their commitment to artistic integrity.

“With the support of this world-class team, I hope to continue to evolve Paramount Television as a studio focused on creating ground-breaking content and providing a welcoming place for talent to thrive.”

Paramount’s slate includes the forthcoming adaptation of classic novel Catch-22 for Hulu, which has George Clooney attached to exec produce.
