Oz VoD service signs CBS pact

Australian subscription VoD (SVoD) service Stan is continuing to bolster its US content offering by signing an output deal with CBS Studios.

The agreement gives the service, which launches in January, streaming rights to the US dramas Ray Donovan, Dexter, Californication, Nurse Jackie and The Good Wife. The deal covers more than 1,200 hours of CBS and Showtime programming.

The deal comes as competition in the Australian SVoD market continues to intensify, with rivals Foxtel and Seven West today collaborating on their own venture.

Key library series will also be added to the platform, including the Star Trek original series, Next Generation and Deep Space Nine, the CSI franchise, the original Twin Peaks, Oz, Deadwood and 1980s soap Dynasty.

Stan, co-owned by Nine Entertainment and Fairfax Media, recently signed a content deal that will see its World Movies channel and some European dramas and local productions carried on the platform once it launches.

It also struck an agreement with Sony Pictures Television that included critically acclaimed drama Breaking Bad, the Breaking Bad spin-off Better Call Saul and new series Mozart in the Jungle and Transparent.

Stan has also entered content pacts with MGM and BBC Worldwide ahead of launch.
