Oxygen, Propagate base doc on podcast

NBCUniversal-owned US cablenet Oxygen has partnered with Ben Silverman’s Propagate Content to develop a documentary series based on a true crime podcast.

Investigative podcast Up & Vanished is credited with helping to crack the 11-year-old cold case of missing beauty queen and school teacher Tara Grinstead, ultimately leading to two arrests.

The podcast comes from Atlanta-based Tenderfoot TV, whose executives Payne Lindsey and Donald Albright are now working with Silverman, Howard T Owens and Brett-Patrick Jenkins of Propagate to develop it for TV.

Propagate previously developed Lore, a horror series based on the podcast of the same name, for Amazon.

Up & Vanished has been downloaded 150 million times, according to Tenderfoot TV, which is now working on a second season of the podcast that will explore a new true crime case.

The company has also partnered with veteran podcasting company HowStuffWorks on Atlanta Monster, which explores serial killings in Atlanta between 1979 and 1981 that claimed the lives of 30 African American children.
