Ovation lands Luther, Death in Paradise

Idris Elba in BBC drama Luther

US cablenet Ovation TV has acquired non-exclusive linear rights to BBC detective shows Luther and Death in Paradise.

The carriage deal covers four of Luther’s five seasons and six out of nine seasons of Death in Paradise (48×60’), with both titles due to become available to Ovation viewers in the fourth quarter of this year.

Luther revolves around a maverick detective, played by Idris Elba, in London’s Serious Crime Unit. The drama is a BBC Studios and BBC America coproduction for the BBC.

Filmed in Guadeloupe, Death in Paradise follows a UK detective who is transferred to the fictional Caribbean island of Saint-Marie. The Red Planet Pictures production is produced with the support of the Guadeloupe Regional Council.

Both series are distributed by BBC Studios, the commercial arm of the UK pubcaster.

Scott Woodward, exec VP of programming and production at Ovation TV, said: “With [BBC Studios’] consistent offering of high-quality programming, Ovation is always happy to partner with BBC Studios on acquisitions. Luther and Death in Paradise are two standout titles that will fit in perfectly with our other premium mystery programming like Riviera and Agatha Christie’s Partners in Crime.”
