Omens favour ex-Blue Ant exec

Paranormal high school comedy Amy & the Afterlife

Singapore-based animation company Omens Studios has hired former Blue Ant Media executive Harry Teper to run its new London office, with two projects already in the works.

Teper has been named as MD of Omens Studios’ UK operation as the animation outfit continues to expand its global footprint.

Reporting to CEO Chi Sim Tang, he will oversee the running of the office with a specific remit to create global brands for the company’s IP through distribution, coproduction, marketing and digital activity. He will also be responsible for Omens Studios’ third-party service work managed via the London office.

Teper was previously senior VP of content development, digital and programming for Blue Ant’s ZooMoo network, where he developed, acquired, coproduced and commissioned content.

His other key roles have included marketing and strategy director for Screen Rebels and senior director, content and creative services for Fox International Channels in Taiwan.

Under Teper, the new London base will act as Omens Studios’ pre-production hub, with all new IP development and some production managed out of the UK. It will also work with both UK- and mainland Europe-based creative talent and broadcast partners.

The first two projects to be run from London, Amy & the Afterlife and Dragon Lizzardo, target the 13-plus demographic.

Created by Ian Milne and executive produced by Silas Hickey, Dragon Lizzardo (26×11’) is an action-comedy featuring extreme slapstick action with an anime twist.

An exiled teen Dragon warrior gets a second chance at life and is forced to lead a rag-tag group of misfits against his former queen to save not just a city, but an entire millennia of civilisation.

Amy & the Afterlife (26×11’) is created by Paul Nicholson and executive produced by Silas Hickey. A paranormal high school comedy, it features goofy ghost Amy who comes back from the dead after a bizarre accident to help her boyfriend navigate the bewildering world of high school and the afterlife.

Chi Sim Tang said: “It’s exciting to grow our business into new markets led by the creative and dynamic Harry Teper and we certainly look forward to adding to our slate of titles and produce even more amazing content for our viewers and partners from around the world.

“To complement our roster of preschool titles, Harry’s remit will include overseeing a robust slate of older-skewing tween comedy action IP development, including our new shows Amy & the Afterlife and Dragon Lizzardo, working with a talented and renowned international crew including Paul Nicholson [Gumball], Silas Hickey [Monster Beach, Lamputt, Ben 10], Tonel Dura and Adam Modiano [Venture Brothers, Ball Masterz].”

The company’s London office complements its existing global footprint, which extends from Singapore to Malaysia, the US, China and India.
