NTV’s Russian dramas head to Japan

Noble Detective will air on AXN Mystery in Japan

Japanese distributors NHK Enterprises and Trans World Associates have acquired the rights to drama series Noble Detective and Schubert, respectively, from Russian broadcaster NTV.

NHK Enterprises, the business arm of pubcaster NHK, has acquired period drama Noble Detective for Sony Pictures Entertainment’s channel AXN Mystery in Japan.

Premiering on the network in February 2021, Noble Detective is set in imperial Russia in the early 20th century. NHK Enterprises handles distribution and acquisitions for NHK while also acquiring a range of titles for non-NHK partners, including Sony Pictures Entertainment-operated AXN Mystery.

Trans World Associates, meanwhile, has acquired the Japanese VoD rights to thriller series Schubert, which centres on a man with a unique ability to discern sounds ordinary people can’t hear.

Trans World licenses content for most Japanese VoD platforms. The company handles international and domestic distribution of feature films and TV programmes.

While this is the first time an Asian market player has acquired the rights to Noble Detective, Schubert has previously been acquired by BiliBili, China’s biggest online platform.
