Nordic producers scale Nevis prodco

L-R: Moa Westeson, Anni Faurbye Fernandez and Cindy Hanson

A trio of drama producers, including the former CEO of Yellow Bird, have set up a Nordic drama prodco with investment support from London-based indie Nevision.

Anni Faurbye Fernandez, Moa Westeson and Cindy Hanson have launched Nevis Productions, which will create high-end scripted content geared towards the Scandinavian market and a global audience.

With offices in Stockholm and Copenhagen, Nevis Productions’ development slate features local-language dramas for Sweden and Denmark alongside English-language projects that they will look to coproduce with international partners.

The broad slate includes dramedy series Neighbourhood Watch, for an undisclosed Scandinavian broadcaster, and a coming-of-age mystery crime series with director Kasper Møller-Jensen.

Nevis is also collaborating with Sofia Helin (The Bridge) and producer Jacob Raben on geopolitical medical thriller Wake, written by UK scribe Jamie Brittain (Skins).

Faurbye Fernandez was previously producer and CEO at Banijay-owned Swedish prodco Yellow Bird and has also had stints at Good Company Films and Cinenord. Her credits include Stieg Larsson’s Millennium trilogy, David Fincher’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Wallander, Occupied, Wisting and Atlantic Crossing.

Nevision boarded Norwegian drama Atlantic Crossing, which stars Kyle MacLachlan (Twin Peaks) and Helin, last year.

Westeson was a feature film producer and coproducer at Breidablick and SF Studios before she moved into TV drama at Cinenord. Her credits include Vegas, the Jerry Maya’s Detective Agency trilogy, Atlantic Crossing and Veum.

As a development producer and series creator at Cinenord, Hanson spearheaded the company’s slate of features and TV series, which included Wisting and Atlantic Crossing.

Hanson has a long TV series and features development track record from both Scandinavia and the UK. During her years in-house at BBC Drama, she worked on shows including Waking the Dead and Occupation. The team at Nevis will be joined by junior producer Matilde Norgaard.

James Cabourne, executive chairman at Nevision, said: “Anni, Moa and Cindy have world-class reputations as producers of high-end scripted content, which makes backing their new venture an unmissable opportunity. The Nordic market is thriving both in terms of content creation and broadcast opportunities, so we are understandably excited by the potential of this drama powerhouse.”

Fernandez, co-founder of Nevis Productions, added: “There is a strong demand for both local-language drama and English-language series that have their roots in Scandinavia. With our strong and diverse network of connections in both our home territories and internationally, we feel we are uniquely positioned to provide exceptional, compelling content for a wide range of platforms and audiences.”
