Nippon’s Mother to get Thai remake

Drama series Mother from Nippon TV

Thai prodco JSL Global Media has acquired the rights to Japanese broadcaster Nippon TV’s drama series Mother and has produced a local version for streaming service Line TV.

The series tells the story of an abused schoolgirl who turns to a primary school teacher for help, with both eventually escaping town pretending to be mother and daughter.

The deal with JSL Global Media follows prior acquisitions of the title in Turkey, South Korea, Ukraine and France.

JSL Global Media also previously acquired the Thai adaptation rights to Nippon TV’s drama series Abandoned, with the adaptation proving a hit among local audiences and winning the Best Drama for Family and Society award at 2019’s Maya Awards.

Thiti Sutthikulphanich, executive producer at JSL Global Media, said: “After the success with Abandoned, we are very pleased to continue working with Nippon TV for the Mother remake. We believe Mother will be well received by Thai audiences. Not only that the story is very touching, but it also has a tint of suspense drama in it. We are all very excited with this project.”
