Nippon TV promotes int’l division duo

Japanese broadcaster Nippon TV has promoted senior executives Keiichi Sawa and Mikiko Nishiyama as it targets strategic creative collaborations with international partners.

Keiichi Sawa

The promotions have been made at Nippon TV’s international business division, which was launched in 2014 and is looking to expand its slate of brands.

Sawa will oversee the expanded division in Tokyo, having been promoted to operating officer of Nippon TV while also retaining his current title of president of business development.

He will be responsible for the overall operation of the division and will report to Hiroyuki Fukuda, board director and operating officer responsible for Nippon TV’s programming, production, sports, and business development.

Sawa replaces Atsushi Sogo, who will become president of NTV Personnel Center Corp, part of the Nippon TV group.

Mikiko Nishiyama

Nishiyama, associate MD of the international business arm, has been promoted to MD of the division. She will be responsible for its day-to-day operations, reporting to Sawa.

“Nippon TV is currently at the top of its game as the ratings champion broadcaster for six consecutive years and our digital strategy is accelerating with Hulu in Japan becoming the leading streaming platform,” said Sawa.

Nippon TV’s library includes scripted formats Mother and Woman: My Life for My Children, plus unscripted formats Dragons’ Den and Block Out.

The Turkish versions of Mother and Woman: My Life for My Children have gone on to air in nearly 40 territories around the world, while the Mother format has also been sold into South Korea, Ukraine, France and Thailand.

Gameshow Block Out, meanwhile, has been sold into Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Spain and Holland.
