Nippon to shop drama format in Cannes

Japanese broadcaster and producer Nippon TV is headlining its MipTV slate with a scripted format from the creators of its hit dramas Mother and Woman – My Life for My Children.

Nippon TV’s Anone

Anone (10×60’), which is also available as a finished drama, is the story of a young girl who, after losing her family, finds purpose in life through a familial relationship with an old woman.

It is hoped the drama will emulate the achievements of Mother and Woman – My Life for My Children, which have been successfully repurposed in Turkey.

Mother became Japan’s first drama format deal with Turkey when it was sold to production outfit MF Yapim, while Woman – My Life for My Children was also adapted by MF Yapim for Fox Turkey.

Anone, which is being offered as a scripted format for the first time at Cannes market MipTV in April, is joined on the slate by unscripted reality competition formats Hungry 9 and Hardcore Fans plus animated series Real Girl.

Social experiment Hungry 9 follows nine contestants locked in a room with 24 hours to determine who is the ‘chosen one’ through mind games, collusion and deception, while sports entertainment series Hardcore Fans showcases the highs and lows of sports fanatics around the world.

Real Girl, originally created as a comic book series by author Mao Nanami, is due to air on Nippon TV in April. It follows the adventures of a high-school senior whose comfort in the company of girls from 2D games and anime is altered when a real-life girl confesses her love for him and they begin dating.
