Nippon drama formats enter France

Nippon TV’s original Mother

MIPTV: French production outfit Incognita has picked up two drama formats from Japanese commercial broadcaster Nippon TV for local adaptation.

Incognita is to produce French versions of Mother and Woman – My Life for My Children.

Mother follows an aloof woman who reluctantly works as an elementary school teacher and notices bruises on a first-grade student. Together, they skip town and embark on a risky journey pretending to be mother and child.

It has already been adapted by Turkey’s Medyapim as Anne, which became a hit on Star TV. The original Korean show was created by Studio Dragon and produced by CJ ENM. It aired on tvN across 10 Asian countries simultaneously last year.

Woman – My Life for My Children depicts a woman’s fight to survive in a difficult world while shedding light on problems rooted in modern society. It too has been adapted by Medyapim in Turkey, where it has been a hit as Kadim and is now in its second season on Fox Turkey.

The Incognita deal was announced on the opening day of MipTV in Cannes this morning by Atsushi Sogo, president of international business development for Nippon TV, and Edouard de Vésinne, CEO of Incognita.

Sogo aid: “This marks the first time that these formats will be created in Europe, and we are looking forward to watching our dramas gain a new life and presence in France.”

France is the Country of Honour at this year’s MipTV conference and market.
