Nine delegations set for Hot Docs

Germany, Italy, Japan and the US are among the latest territories to have confirmed they will send official producer delegations to Canadian festival Hot Docs this spring.

Delegations from Atlantic Canada, Bermuda, Chile, the Nordic Region and Northern Ireland will join two previously confirmed industry delegations from Mexico and Europe at this year’s event, which runs in Toronto from April 26 to May 6.

The delegations consist of established producers and broadcasters working across social, cultural and political documentary genres.

The news comes after Hot Docs, which is North America’s largest documentary festival, announced earlier this month that it will showcase recent works from Mexico in its ‘Made In’ programme this year. The program will be run in collaboration with the Mexican Film Institute.

The fest is also planning a collaboration with European Film Promotion for a special programme entitled The Changing Face of Europe. The initiative will comprise a pan-European showcase of 10 documentaries that illustrate the current cultural, geographic, economic and political factors affecting Europe today.

Atlantic Canada’s delegation will be led by Lunenburg Doc Fest, Bermuda’s is led by Wishing Step Picture and Chile’s delegation is led by ChileDoc with support from Chilean National Council for Culture.

Germany’s delegation is led by AG DOK, Italy’s is led by the Italian Trade Commission, Japan’s is led by Tokyo Docs, the Nordic Region’s is led by Nordisk Panorama, Northern Ireland’s is led by Northern Ireland Screen and the US’s is led by IFP.
