Zee makes US Hispanic move

India’s Zee Entertainment Enterprises has launched a Spanish-language Bollywood movie channel in the US.

Zee Mundo marks the first time an Indian media company has attempted to market Indian movies in the Hispanic market. The premium HD movie channel will contain Bollywood cinematic titles that will all be dubbed into Spanish.

“Both the markets share strong cultural similarities in terms of family structure, socio-economic conditions, food, music, art and culture,” said Amit Goenka, Zee’s CEO of international broadcast business.

“We are confident that Zee Mundo’s programming will cross frontiers with storylines and themes that are relatable to the Hispanic audiences. With Zee Mundo, we have an exclusive Hollywood-quality product that is designed to attract and captivate Pay-TV subscribers through the best of Bollywood productions.”

Zee, which claims to reach over one billion viewers globally, also plans to expand into Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Peru and Chile. It recently launched a free-to-air channel in Germany and is exploring a global SVoD offering, as revealed by C21.
