ZED royal docs anointed by global nets

A number of European broadcasters have acquired a pair of documentaries about royalty, in the wake of US network CBS’s Harry and Meghan interview.

Queen Elizabeth’s Last Battles looks at recent incidents that have rocked the monarchy

Queen Elizabeth’s Last Battles (1×52’), made by French prodcos Elephant and Chrysalide Productions for France Télévisions, has been picked up by Spanish pay channel Canal+, Italy’s RSI and Belgian Francophone network RTBF from French distributor ZED.

Serbian broadcaster RTS, Spanish pubcaster RTVE, Canada’s CBC, Swedish channel SVT, Latvia’s LTV and United Media Group, which broadcasts across south-east Europe, have also acquired it.

The doc covers the monarch’s recent difficulties, including Prince Harry and Meghan Duchess of Sussex stepping back from royal duties and Prince Andrew’s infamous Newsnight interview about Jeffrey Epstein.

ZED is also shopping Her Name Was Grace Kelly (1×52’), made for France Télévisions by French outfit Patrick Spica Productions.

The film aims to show the life of the former Princess of Monaco in a way never seen before, using archive footage and interviews with those who knew her, including her son Albert.

RSI, RTBF, RTS, CBC and RTVE have picked up the doc along with US cablenet Reelz, Channel 4 in the UK, Germany’s ZDF, Japan’s NHK, Poland’s Canal+, Flemish broadcaster VRT, Sweden’s UR, Estonia’s ERR, RTV Slovenia, Avrotros in the Netherlands, Denmark’s DR, Ireland’s RTÉ, Czech broadcaster Ceska Televize and New Zealand satcaster Sky.
