ZDFneo orders adaptation of French comedy Irresponsable from ITVS Germany

Like a Loser was originally a French coproduction

German broadcaster ZDF’s younger-skewing network ZDFneo has ordered an adaptation of French comedy series Irresponsable from ITV Studios (ITVS) Germany.

Created by Frédéric Rosset, Irresponsable was originally coproduced by La Pépinière and ITVS’s Tetra Media Fiction in France.

The eight-episode German version’s working title is Like a Loser and will be produced by ITVS Germany, with Facundo Scalerandi directing from scripts by Sandra Schröder and Jonas Heicks. Peter Fröhlich and Christian Rietz will exec produce.

The show follows 31-year-old Julian, who has lost his job, is broke and living with his mother. Back in his childhood bedroom, he dreams of life in the big city and a career as a musician.

When Julian is reunited with his teenage sweetheart, she has a big surprise in store for him: his 15-year-old son. After the initial shock, Julian decides to play a role in his son’s life, but becoming a father isn’t easy when you behave like a teenager yourself.

ITVS holds international distribution rights to the format.
