ZDF greenlights German adaptation of French-Canadian drama format Plan B

The German adaptation of Plan B is in production

German pubcaster ZDF has commissioned a local version of French-Canadian scripted format Plan B.

The German version, produced by Sabine de Mardt and Andreas Bareiss for Gaumont Germany, is currently filming.

Ingrid Kaltenegger and Mika Kallwass wrote the German adaptation, which is directed by Isa Prahl and Eoin Moore and stars Katja Riemann and Hannah Schiller.

The original French-language version of the series is produced by Montreal’s KOTV and the format is sold internationally by KOTV Distribution. Written by Jean Francois Asselin and Jacques Drolet, it examines what would happen if you could travel back in time and fix events using your ‘plan B.’

To date, the format has been remade in France with TF1, Belgium with Streamz and in English-speaking Canada by the CBC. The latter version starred Patrick J Adams and Karine Vanasse.

Four seasons of the French-Canadian version have aired and a fifth is currently in development.

AromaTV’s Barbara Vallant, who brokered the deal on behalf of KOTV, said: “This masterpiece series is created by two of the most in-demand authors in Québec – a first Québecois adaptation for ZDF and, hopefully, the first of many to come.”
