ZDF, Cottonwood Media partner again for second season of Theodosia

Theodosia & the Oasis of Magic goes into production in the new year

ZDF in Germany is on board a second season of the Egyptology-themed tween live-action series Theodosia, produced by Paris-based Cottonwood Media.

Currently in production, Theodosia & the Oasis of Magic (26×30′) is scheduled to start filming in January 2023 in Belgium, Paris and Morocco.

Cottonwood parent company Federation Kids & Family and ZDF Studios will again handle worldwide sales of the show, which is based on books by Robin L LaFevers.

Set against the backdrop of Edwardian London and Egypt, it follows a young girl who is fascinated by Egyptology and has hidden powers that allow her to see ancient curses.

The first season was a coproduction between Cottonwood Media, ZDF, ZDF Studios, Globo in Brazil and US streamer HBO Max, which has since moved away from live-action programming for kids and families.

Season one has since been picked up by broadcasters including the BBC in the UK, France Télévisions and NPO in the Netherlands.

Cottonwood Media co-founders David Michel, Cécile Lauritano and Zoé Carrera Allaix said in a joint statement: “Having worked with ZDF on quite a few of our live-action series over the years, it’s an absolute pleasure to see this synergistic partnership continuing to evolve.”
