X Factor: ITV has ‘no current plans’ for new season of singing competition

UK commercial broadcaster ITV has said it has no plans for a return of singing competition format The X Factor, which last aired on the channel in 2018.

Created by music mogul Simon Cowell, The X Factor debuted on ITV in 2004 where it ran every year until 2019, when a celebrity version took its place.

In early 2020, just before the Covid-19 pandemic hit the UK, it was revealed the show would be taking a break before returning in 2021. Now, ITV has said “there are no current plans for the next series of The X Factor at this stage.”

According to a report from The Sun, The X Factor is being shelved for at least five years and is unlikely to return to UK screens at all.
