Lifetime has appointed Amy Winter, executive VP and general manager at fellow US cable network UpTV, as its executive VP and head of programming.

Winter will oversee all programming for the network and fellow female-focused channel LMN, including movies, scripted and unscripted, reporting to Rob Sharenow, president of programming at A+E Networks.

Based in New York and joining in March, Winter fills the role most recently held by Liz Gateley, who left Lifetime in 2018 and resurfaced at audio giant Spotify.

Gateley’s departure saw Gena McCarthy add oversight of Lifetime’s unscripted content to her responsibilities, while Tanya Lopez was made executive VP of movies, limited series and original movie acquisitions for Lifetime and LMN.

McCarthy and Lopez will now report to Winter, who has spent the past five years at UpTV, overseeing original series such as Bringing Up Bates, Expecting and Date My Dad.

Winter previously worked at Discovery Communications, where she was executive VP and general manager of TLC.

“Amy’s strategic and creative experience defining brands, coupled with her uncanny ability to spot breakthrough hits, makes her an exciting addition to the A+E Networks programming team,” said Sharenow.
