WildBrain to oversee Moomins on YouTube

Gutsy Animations’ Moominvalley features a star voice cast

DHX Media-owned online children’s network and studio WildBrain has been appointed to develop a global YouTube strategy for kids’ property the Moomins.

WildBrain has been tapped by Gutsy Animations to manage the animated versions of Finnish-Swedish writer and artist Tove Jansson’s classic stories on YouTube.

These include past Moomin content such as the series from the 1990s, behind-the-scenes material and other content created exclusively for YouTube by Moomin.com.

It will also develop the YouTube strategy for Moominvalley (13×22′), the recent Gutsy Animations production that featured the voice talent of Taron Egerton, Rosamund Pike, Matt Lucas, Jennifer Saunders, Kate Winslet and Matt Berry.

Marika Makaroff, executive producer and creative director of Gutsy Animations, said: “Our dedicated following of fans is keen to know more about the creative process behind our new adaptation of Tove’s beautiful and deeply meaningful stories, and to also re-live memories of the past series.”

The Moomins, a family of white roundish trolls with large snouts, are the central characters in a series of books and a comic strip by Jansson, written and illustrated between 1944 and 1971.
