WarnerMedia, Tencent adapt Miss Fisher

Miss S is set in Shanghai in the 1930s

WarnerMedia Entertainment Networks Asia Pacific is teaming up with Chinese network Tencent on a local adaptation of Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries.

Miss S is being produced by Tencent Penguin Pictures, Shanghai 99 Visual and Easy Entertainment. All3Media International, which distributes the series and format globally, has sealed the deal with WarnerMedia to make HBO a partner on the project.

It will air as an HBO Asia Original on WarnerMedia’s regional streaming service HBO GO and then the HBO channel. WarnerMedia has also acquired the rights to air the Mandarin-language drama in the US. In China, the series will air on Tencent and its several satellite channels simultaneously.

The adaptation is set in 1930s Shanghai and focuses on a beautiful and witty socialite who forms an unlikely detective duo with a righteous and serious inspector.

Jin Weiyi is the head writer and producer on the series, while Every Cloud’s Fiona Eagger and Deb Cox are creative consultants. Deng Ke will serve as the series’ lead director.

Sabrina Duguet, exec VP for APAC at All3Media International, said: “This is our first collaboration on an HBO Asia Original and we all agree that Miss S is genuinely a fantastic series. The show is infused with all the sophistication and flair we have come to love from the Miss Fisher brand and represents an exciting continuation of this stylish drama’s success story.”

This new deal is the latest in the ongoing success of the Miss Fisher brand. Alongside three seasons of the original drama produced for ABC Australia, All3Media International also distributes the latest incarnation of the franchise, Ms Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries and the theatrical feature film Miss Fisher & the Crypt of Tears.
