Warner Bros Discovery names senior teams for India, SE Asia, Korea, Japan, ANZ

Discovery’s MD for South-east Asia, Megha Tata, and WarnerMedia APAC’s kids and family chief, Leslie Lee, are among the latest execs leaving Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) as the newly merged behemoth continues to set its senior team.

Clement Schwebig

Tata and Lee depart as WBD finalises the structure for its India, South-east Asia and Korea (INSEAK) operations under regional president and MD Clement Schwebig, with their exits accompanied by a string of new appointments.

Among the major moves, Discovery senior VP of Asia Pacific content strategy and general manager for Japan and South Korea Jeeyoung Lee has been named WBD’s general manager for Korea, while WarnerMedia’s HBO Max India general manager, Arjun Nohwar, takes up an expanded remit across WBD in the country.

Within the programming, original production and acquisition division in South-east Asia, Taiwan and Hong Kong, Magdalene Ew will continue to head entertainment, Christopher Ho will head kids and Lynn Ng will run factual and lifestyle.

Across the entire INSEAK region, Jae Chang will continue to lead TV distribution and home entertainment.

“I am extremely excited with the talent we have and the opportunities that lie ahead – from our streaming services HBO Go in South-east Asia and Discovery+ in India to the growth potential of the kids space in India,” said Schwebig.

“I will be working closely with the newly appointed INSEAK leadership team to finalise our key priorities for the next 18 months. With this structure, we are well-positioned to achieve our ambition of being the best and most dynamic media company in the region.”

James Gibbons

Meanwhile, WBD president and MD for Japan, Australia and New Zealand James Gibbons unveiled the senior team for operations in the regions, with WarnerMedia president Masami Takahashi named WBD’s Japan country manager and head of studios.

Glen Kyne has been appointed head of networks in Japan and Australia and New Zealand (ANZ), based in Auckland. Sydney-based Michael Brooks continues as MD of Warner Bros International Television Production Australia and also becomes head of studios for ANZ.

David Macdonald is now VP of networks for Japan, reporting to Kyne, while Lynn Ng will continue to lead content operations for the APAC region and has also been appointed head of factual and lifestyle for South-east Asia.

“These appointments reflect the strength of leadership from both legacy companies, bringing an impressive track record and deep knowledge of our diversified Warner Bros Discovery portfolio,” said Gibbons. “I look forward to working together with this team to optimise our businesses and build further scale across Japan and ANZ.”

The latest appointments follow those unveiled yesterday across the EMEA region.
