Warner Bros Discovery appoints Alberto Carullo as Miguel Salvat’s successor at Max

Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) has announced the appointment of Alberto Carullo as VP of Max Local Original Production Italy & Iberia, reporting directly to Laura Carafoli, senior VP of content networks & streaming local productions Italy & Iberia.

Operating from the Madrid, Spain office and starting in January 2024, Carullo will be responsible for the development and execution of local productions – scripted and unscripted – for streaming in Spain and at the same time will begin working on development projects for Italy.

Carullo’s appointment follows the announcement of the departure of Miguel Salvat, VP commissioning editor of original programming at HBO Spain.

At that time, WBD also announced a restructuring whereby a single person would lead original production in Italy and Spain for fiction and non-fiction projects in an expanded and new position.

Carullo will take that role, arriving from Warner Bros International Television Production, where since January he has been head of drama for Spain and Portugal.

“Alberto Carullo’s profile, his experience and knowledge of the sector in both Iberia and Italy, represent an important added value for the growth and development of the streaming business in our region, said Carafoli.

“His arrival is undoubtedly strategic for the launch of Max in Iberia next spring, both to lay the foundations to build the best possible offer of local content and to maintain and strengthen the relationship with the creative community of both countries.”

Italy-born Carullo is a veteran executive and producer who has held various important positions in Spain and Italy over the last 30 years.

He was marketing and on-air director of Mediaset in Italy and director of Telecinco (Mediaset group) in Spain, where he also held positions of responsibility in production companies such as Big Bang Media and Boca Boca.

Carullo completes Carafoli’s team, which already includes: Aldo Romersa, VP of programming in charge of the Nove channel and the men’s channels of the Italian portfolio; Gesualdo Vercio, VP of programming in charge of Real Time and women’s and children’s channels in Italy; Bibiana Gonzales, programming director for Iberia and in charge of programming and production of the television channels in Spain and Portugal; and Cecilia Penati, content development and production director, in charge of Italian productions.
