Warner Bros confirms streamer Max will launch down under in 2025

Warner Bros Discovery has confirmed it will launch its Max streaming platform in Australia in the first half of 2025.

James Gibbons

Speaking at the APOS media and technology conference in Bali yesterday, Warner Bros’ Asia-Pacific president James Gibbons told delegates the launch is “definitely happening.”

The executive gave little detail on how the rollout would be structured and who its partners might be but added: “We have had a long-standing and important relationship with Foxtel, and I think the time has come for us to expand that into the direct-to-consumer space. Partners are really important for us.”

In April 2023, Warner Bros Discovery renewed its long-standing strategic partnership with Foxtel in a new multi-year content and platform deal.

The pact included exclusive content rights across both Foxtel and Binge and leaves room for future collaboration between the two companies.

At the time Foxtel CEO Patrick Delany said the partnership “cements our position as the partner of choice to the world’s largest entertainment studios. We are delighted Warner Bros Discovery chose us as we continue our long-standing partnership together, with optionality at its core.” With Gibbons adding that the deal “provides optionality for future collaboration, including for our future streaming service.”

On the confirmation of the launch, a Foxtel Group spokesperson said, “Warner Bros Discovery is a long-standing strategic partner of the Foxtel Group.  As we have long said, optionality remains at the heart of our partnership.”
