Walter Presents, HBO, Arte, Filmin among buyers for Beta Film’s CEE drama series

Soviet Jeans is produced by Tasse Film in Latvia

Germany’s Beta Film has secured a raft of sales for its slate of shows from Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), including licensing its Latvian dramedy Soviet Jeans to Walter Presents in the US, UK, Ireland and Canada.

The eight-part series, produced by Tasse Film, was also picked up by HBO in the CEE region, Arte for Germany and France and Filmin in Spain and Portugal.

The Soviet Latvia-set dramedy follows a rebellious young rock fan who sets up a counterfeit jean production in a mental asylum. Streamer VOYO in Slovakia and the Czech Republic and Hungarian broadcaster MTVA also picked up the show.

HBO in CEE and Filmin in Spain and Portugal also picked up the Serbian thriller Operation Sabre, which follows the aftermath of the 2003 assassination of Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Đinđić.

A pair of Beta’s Sarajevo-set shows, I Know Your Soul and The Hollow, landed international deals, with the former picked up by Arte for Germany and France and HBO for CEE, and the latter acquired by Australian pubcaster SBS. The Australian outlet also picked up The Hollow.

In addition, Ukrainian war drama In Her Car was picked up by RTÉ in Ireland and Canal+ for Austria, Poland, Hungary, the Netherlands, and Romania, while Czech Television’s hostage thriller Ultimatum was nabbed by Walter Presents in UK and Ireland.
