Walking Dead wins Parrot demand award

The Walking Dead took the first Global TV Demand Award

NATPE: Zombie drama The Walking Dead was the most in-demand TV series in the world during 2018, according to TV ratings company Parrot Analytics.

The show won the inaugural Global TV Demand Award at Natpe Miami yesterday, with cast members Josh McDermitt and Pollyanna McIntosh, and producer Denise Huth accepting the prize.

Parrot’s analysis also revealed that the most in-demand digital original series during 2018 was Stranger Things from Netflix.

The award winners were determined using Parrot Analytics’ demand rank system, which uses a huge number of sources, including mentions on social media and downloads, to calculate how much a TV series is wanted in more than 100 TV markets around the world.

“This is the first time a TV series has been bestowed an award on the basis of true demand for that show globally,” said Adriana Cisneros, CEO at Latin American distributor and broadcaster Cisneros and a member of the Parrot Analytics board.

“The TV business is now a US$500bn industry and outdated audience measurement systems simply don’t tell the complete story. Parrot Analytics provides the most accurate determination of what content people actually want in an ever-expanding multi-platform world.”
