Vodka and Televisa Home Entertainment will coproduce TV series Bugsted (13×1′), which targets 8-11s, and its accompanying iOS/Android app. In the physics-based game, players will guide mutated bugs that have arrived on Earth by mistake back to the moon.

As part of the agreement, Televisa’s flagship free-to-air channel will air the series, which is described as “edgy, irreverent and pure entertainment.” The property launches next spring with Televisa acting as licensing agent.

“Clearly, app-based properties are demonstrating the ability of becoming strong entertainment brands. Vodka Capital’s Bugsted not only is great content but also offers a compelling business model to break away from the clutter and leverage all our strengths as a leading broadcaster and licensing agent,” said Maca Rotter, director general of Televisa Consumer Products.

“Given our experience in interactive and gaming, we decided to develop Bugsted as a new model for launching kids’ intellectual properties quickly to market in close partnerships with TV channels and key licensing partners from day one,” said Victor Lopez, CEO of Vodka, the firm behind Cartoonito hit Jelly Jamm.
