Viu, HBO Asia return to The Bridge

Hong Kong-based OTT service Viu and HBO Asia have renewed their regional version of Scandinavian crime drama The Bridge for a second season.

HBO Asia partnered with Viu last year after the latter announced it would adapt the Endemol Shine scripted format.

Malaysian prodco Double Vision will produce the 10-episode second run, which will simulcast on Viu and HBO Asia in 2020.

The new season centres on a yacht registered in Singapore that drifts ashore near Malaysia and is found to contain the bodies of an Indonesian family.

The Bridge was originally created and written by Hans Rosenfeldt and produced by Sweden’s Filmlance International, part of Endemol Shine Group, and Denmark’s Nimbus Film.

The news comes after Viu earlier this week ordered a local version of US drama series Pretty Little Liars and last week struck a development deal with Canadian storytelling platform Wattpad.
