A broadcaster in South-East Asia has become the first in the region to order a local version of Sony Pictures Television (SPT)’s entrepreneur format Dragons’ Den.

The show, which airs in the US on ABC as Shark Tank, is being remade for Vietnam’s VTV, which has ordered 16 episodes for a 2017 launch.

The commission arrives on the heels of several recent orders of the format. In the Middle East, Rotana Media Group has lined up its first local adaptation, with two seasons to air on its Khalijia channel starting next year.

In Hungary, TV2 has ordered its first season of six episodes to air in 2017.

In Australia, Network Ten has ordered a third season of Shark Tank Australia, which will debut next year. SPT will be also produce a second run of Shark Tank México: Negociando con Tiburones.

“This is an especially exciting announcement for us, being able to bring this hugely successful format that originated in Japan to yet another audience in Asia,” said Ken Lo, senior VP of international distribution, Asia-Pacific at SPT.

Dragons’ Den was created by Japan’s Nippon TV and is distributed internationally by SPT. It gives entrepreneurs the opportunity to secure life-changing sums of money and expertise from some of the biggest names in business.
