A blend of soap opera and crime drama, the latest Viaplay Original series features an all-star Swedish cast and follows Läckberg’s Hammarvik which was also adapted by Viaplay.

Filming of The Beach Hotel starts today in the Swedish coastal town of Varberg, and the series will premiere exclusively on Viaplay in 2023.

The plot centres around an accident that disrupts a 60th birthday party at a beach hotel.

Läckberg has sold more than 30 million books and her work has been published in more than 60 countries.

Alongside four seasons of Hammarvik, Viaplay has premiered Läckberg’s first-ever feature film, the dystopian drama Glacier starring Alexander Karim (The Wheel of Time; The Box).

Filippa Wallestam, Viaplay Group chief content officer: “Camilla Läckberg and Viaplay’s Hammarvik has single-handedly renewed the Nordic soap opera. Her next epic offers rivalries, forbidden love and, as usual with Camilla, a distinct risk that some characters won’t make it to the end. As with Hammarvik, The Beach Hotel will be unmissable entertainment that will attract a broad audience to Viaplay, including viewers coming to streaming for the first time.”

Lead writers are Lovisa Löwhagen and Jakob Vasell, both of whom worked on Hammarvik. The series is executive produced by Kristoffer Graci and Lotta Dolk at Creative Society Production and Viaplay Group respectively.
