Viacom reveals Paramount dramas

Waco stars Michael Shannon, Taylor Kitsch, John Leguizamo and Melissa Benoist

The first scripted shows to premiere on Paramount Network when it replaces Spike TV early next year have been revealed.

Bob Bakish, CEO of parent company Viacom, announced plans to rebrand the channel earlier this year and the first new shows for the new-look net have now been slated.

Leading the line-up is six-part event series Waco, with a cast including Michael Shannon, Taylor Kitsch, John Leguizamo and Melissa Benoist. The show is based on the true story of the 1993 FBI siege of a religious sect led by David Koresh, resulting in a deadly shootout and fire.

Also on the slate are Yellowstone, starring Kevin Costner and written and directed by screenwriter Taylor Sheridan, and American Woman, from producer John Wells. The latter is a single-camera comedy set in the 1970s amid the sexual revolution and the rise of feminism.

Heathers, meanwhile, is an hour-long black comedy anthology. The series is based on the 1998 cult classic film of the same name and is set in the present day.

Paramount Network will officially debut on Thursday January 18 at 21.00 ET/PT with a live one-hour episode of Lip Sync Battle.
