Vaughan on Lookout after Alchemy

Alchemy cofounder and partner Simon Vaughan is the latest to exit the transatlantic production group, weeks after C21 revealed it had wound down its UK arm and its US CEO had exited.

Vaughan has launched a new venture Lookout Point, billed as a media boutique specialising in the coproduction and financing of international drama.

Lookout Point is Vaughan’s first solo venture. He was one of the original founders of Alchemy Television and before that helped establish Power Television’s drama coproduction business.

Alchemy is the coproducer of ABC Network’s upcoming Ben Hur, with financing from ABC (US), CBC (Canada) ProSeiben (Germany), Antenna 3 (Spain) and Sony (Worldwide DVD). This is thought to typify the kind of financing structures that Lookout Point will employ.

Vaughan said in a statement: “The majority of my work anticipates a US platform in conjunction with international partners. It’s a timely recipe and this year I really feel the model has proved itself. We know to make ambitious projects that use global finance structures without compromising on the creative.”

Vaughan’s exit leaves a question mark over the future direction of Alchemy. C21 broke the news that CEO Carrie Stein had exited the company last month. We earlier revealed that it had wound down its UK arm, prompting the exit of reality chief Mike Beale.
