UYoung, Sixteen South launch global JV

Lily’s Driftwood Bay

Beijing-based animation producer UYoung and Belfast studio Sixteen South have partnered to create children’s programmes with global appeal.

The first joint project, currently in development, is a 52×11’ preschool series that portrays love and friendship across different cultures and nations.

In addition, UYoung has acquired the Chinese rights to Sixteen South’s animated mixed-media series Lily’s Driftwood Bay, in which a new adventure washes up on the beach every day.

Season two of the show has already been sold to iQiyi, Youku and Tencent in China, and UYoung will also take the programme to the China Licensing Expo in Shanghai later this month.

Increasingly active internationally, UYoung is continually looking to work with international coproduction partners to create shows for both Western and Eastern markets.

The firm has previously collaborated with Little Airplane on P King Duckling, which became the first Chinese cartoon to appear on Disney Junior in the US and has gone on to air worldwide.

Sixteen South is dedicated to the development, creation and production of original premium TV for children all over the world. Its other titles include Claude, WildWoods and Pinkalicious.
