US execs set for Berlin drama confab

The producers behind US drama series including The X-Files and Law & Order will share their insights into the industry at the European TV Drama Series Lab 2012 in Berlin.

The event, organised by the Potsdam-based Erich Pommer Institut in association with MediaXchange, is spilt across two workshops, taking place on April 24-29 and June 9-15.

In the first module, which will focus on narrative structures of series and building coproductions, Frank Spotnitz (The X-Files) and Neil Baer (Law & Order) will describe the importance of a showrunner in US productions, while Lilyhammer co-creator Anne Bjørnstad will discuss making the US/Norwegian copro.

Klaus Zimmermann will present the historical series Borgia from a producer’s perspective, and Peter de Maegd will reveal the secrets of The Spiral, a trans-European project that combines traditional storytelling with gaming, online extensions and audience participation.

Other industry experts to attend include Axel Böhm, director of international fiction acquisition for SevenOne International; Brian Seth-Hurst, CEO of The Opportunity Management Company; and Horst Stipp, executive VP of The Advertising Research Foundation, formerly head of research for NBCUniversal.

The second module is dedicated to exploring the US concept of the writers room.
