US authors make Brazen move with prodco

Bestselling authors and Pulitzer Prize finalists Tom Wright and Bradley Hope have launched a US-based multiplatform prodco to tell true stories via documentaries, TV series, films, podcasts and books.

Described as a journalism studio, Project Brazen will focus on geopolitical stories that have been overlooked by other media.

Wright and Hope were longtime collaborators at the Wall Street Journal. During their time at the US newspaper, they led the team that broke open the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal, a US$6bn fraud that brought down a government and forced Goldman Sachs to pay the largest ever penalty under US bribery laws.

They co-wrote the international bestseller Billion Dollar Whale (2018) about Malaysian playboy Jho Low, the fraud’s mastermind, who ensnared banks, Hollywood celebrities and politicians in his schemes. Project Brazen was the codename Wright and Hope gave to that three-year investigation.

The book is now being developed into a limited TV series by SK Global, the studio behind hit romantic comedy movie Crazy Rich Asians.

“Project Brazen’s stories transport audiences inside hidden worlds. Through our painstaking and challenging reporting process, we peel back the cover on international crime, business and politics,” Wright and Hope said in a joint statement.
