Upgrade, ACT 4, Drugi Plan join forces for Icelandic-Croatian Volcano

SERIES MANIA: LA-based Upgrade Productions is partnering with Iceland’s newly launched ACT 4 and Croatia’s Drugi Plan on a new, original eco-political drama-thriller series.

Volcano was unveiled on day one of Series Mania in Lille by Upgrade co-presidents Matt Brodlie and Jonathan Kier.

The 8×60’ series is produced by ACT 4, the production company led by Icelandic creatives including True Detective actor Ólafur Darri Ólafsson and Black Sands producer Hörður Rúnarsson.

Croatia’s Drugi Plan, led by Nebojsa Taraba and Miodrag Sila (HBO’s Success, Netflix’s The Paper) is also on board.

Executive produced by Upgrade Productions, Volcano is based on the original idea by Taraba and Sila and written by Rúnarsson and Mateja Božičević (Amazon Prime’s Carnival Row).

The mixed-language series (English, Icelandic, Croatian) will be shot in Iceland and Croatia, with production scheduled to start early next year.

The plot is set following a crushing volcanic eruption which devastates Iceland and leads to a UN directive relocating the surviving residents to Croatia.
