Universal Studio Group taps Paul Getto as exec VP of strategy, business development

US-based Universal Studio Group (USG) has tapped former Focus Features executive Paul Getto as its new exec VP of strategy and business development.

Paul Getto

Getto will manage a team that identifies and executes strategic initiatives, business-development opportunities and investment planning across several USG divisions, including Universal Television and unscripted studio Universal Television Alternative Studio.

His team will also work with USG’s UK-based managerial team and Universal International Studios, including the NBCUniversal Formats units.

Specifically, USG said Getto’s team will use analysis and modelling to provide business recommendations to USG leadership regarding emerging industry trends, potential strategic investments and other expansion opportunities.

Getto was formerly executive VP of business operations at Focus Features, which, like USG and its subsidiaries, sits under the NBCUniversal umbrella. In his new role, he will report to USG chief financial officer Bradley Melnick.

Prior to his time at Focus Features, Getto was the VP of film strategy and operations at Universal Filmed Entertainment Group. He was also previously the director of development and production at Participant.

“Paul’s industry expertise and business acumen have solidified his stellar reputation for delivering lofty strategic objectives,” said Melnick.

“We’re excited to welcome him to the USG team to guide our top-notch executives as we continue driving revenue, scale and vision for NBCU.”

Getto added: “I thoroughly enjoy being part of NBCUniversal, and Universal Studio Group is an incredible component of the overall business. I am excited to leverage my experience and network to add value to this impressive team.”
