UKTV orders Prospero true crime doc marking 25 years since outback murder

British backpacker Peter Falconio was murdered in the Outback in 2001

UK multichannel broadcaster UKTV has commissioned true crime documentary Outback Terror: The Falconio Murder for its U&W entertainment brand and streaming service U.

The 2×60’ doc, produced by Australian prodco Prospero Productions, coincides with the 25th anniversary of the death of British backpacker Peter Falconio, who was murdered by Bradley John Murdoch in the Australian outback in 2001.

Investigative specialists return to the crime scene, where they will attempt to uncover new insights into Murdoch’s motives and determine where Falconio – whose body was never recovered – is buried.

Principal production funding came from Screen Australia in association with Screenwest and Lotterywest. Sphere Abacus is handling international distribution.

Adam Collings, director of programming, factual and factual entertainment, at U and U&W, said: “True crime is becoming an increasing part of our exclusive factual offering, both on demand on U and on linear on U&W, and I’m pleased that we can add a brand-new look at one of the most compelling true crime cases of the last 25 years.”
