UK’s Pop, Mexico’s Canal Once pick up Annedroids from Sinking Ship

Annedroids was created by JJ Johnson

UK free-to-air channel Pop and Mexican educational broadcaster Canal Once have acquired children’s series Annedroids from Canada’s Sinking Ship Entertainment (SSE).

The hybrid live-action/CGI series follows a budding 11-year-old scientist who builds robots to help her perform experiments with her friends and her android creations.

An Amazon Prime Video original, Annedroids was created by SSE principal JJ Johnson and is produced by SSE in association with broadcasters TVOkids, SRC and KiKa.

Toronto-based producer and distributor SSE has also licensed comedic maths series Odd Squad to Pop and German VoD channel Kixi.

Aimed at kids aged five to eight, Odd Squad follows a high-tech organisation run by kids who use their maths skills to investigate odd phenomena. Created by Tim McKeon and Adam Peltzman, the show is coproduced by SSE and Fred Rogers Productions for PBS Kids, in association with TVOkids.

In other recent deals, HBO Max in Latin America acquired the non-exclusive SVoD rights to the first two seasons of Odd Squad, with the series set to premiere later this year.
