Ukraine’s Novy meets La Famiglia

La Famiglia follows a suburban family’s therapy sessions

Ukranian TV channel Novy has acquired the format rights to Israeli comedy series La Famiglia, which airs locally on Channel 10 and Reshet 13.

ITV Studios-owned Israeli distributor Armoza Formats has sold the format rights to Novy, which will make a local series of 16×45’ episodes.

La Famiglia, which tells the story of a suburban family’s therapy sessions in the divorce capital of the country, was created by Ran Dovrat, Avi Belkin and Ohad Perach and produced by United Studios of Israel.

So far the format has been adapted in India for Amazon Prime Video, as Mind The Malhotras, with a second season in production, and a first season is filming in Russia for CTC. Sixty episodes of a Greek version are already available on ANT1.

CBS picked up the US formats rights in 2019, with James Corden’s prodco Fulwell 73 believed to be on board the adaptation, working-titled The Last Happy Couple.

Salome Peillon, head of sales at Armoza Formats, said: “The recent success of La Famiglia around the world shows that comedy is truly universal and that nothing makes people laugh more than a family comedy that they can relate to. We look forward to seeing what is next for this hit comedy, starting with the latest adaptation in Ukraine.”
