UK prodco Various Artists hires Channel 4’s Jack Bayles as head of comedy

Various Artists, the UK production company behind hit BBC comedy-drama I May Destroy You, has appointed Channel 4 commissioning editor Jack Bayles as its head of comedy.

Bayles will take up the role in August and will be based in London and Brighton.

After producing Channel 4 comedy hit Catastrophe with Sharon Horgan and Rob Delaney, Bayles was appointed commissioning editor for the channel in 2017.

Since then he has been responsible for all three seasons of Stath Lets Flats, two seasons of Derry Girls, two seasons of This Way Up, along with Back, The Curse, Hullraisers and the forthcoming Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared.

Various Artists was founded in 2017 by Peep Show creators Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong, together with producers and former Channel 4 commissioners Phil Clarke and Roberto Troni.

At Various Artists, Bayles will be responsible for overseeing its comedy slate as well as developing new projects. He comes to the prodco with over 20 years’ experience in comedy and will report to Clarke, the company’s managing director.
