UK prodco True Vision names Raw Cut alum Frank MacDonald as director of development

Former Mercury Studios and Raw Cut TV executive Frank MacDonald has been appointed director of development at London-based prodco True Vision (The Sixth Commandment).

MacDonald will be tasked with shaping the company’s slate and identifying high-impact factual content for a range of platforms.

He joins from Universal Music Group-owned Mercury Studios, where he served as head of development. Prior to that, he held the same role at Raw Cut Television, having previously worked in senior executive positions at The Garden, Pulse Films and Zinc Media.

MacDonald’s credits include music documentary series My Life as a Rolling Stone for the BBC and MGM, plus an upcoming feature doc about heavy metal band Metallica.

MacDonald’s appointment follows last month’s hire of Mark Roberts as creative director, and further strengthens True Vision’s ambitions in the premium factual and factual drama space. The prodco primarily makes factual titles but recently coproduced BBC crime drama series The Sixth Commandment with Wild Mercury. It was based on True Vision’s own doc, Catching a Killer: A Diary from the Grave.

True Vision founder and CEO Brian Woods said: “Frank’s creativity and deep experience across broadcasters and streamers alike will greatly enhance True Vision’s ability to broaden our production portfolio, while sticking to our core mission of making award-winning blue-chip films that make a difference.”
