TwoFour bolsters comedy team

UK indie TwoFour has appointed a new head of comedy entertainment from Shine TV.

Darren Smith moves into the newly created position, having previously worked as head of entertainment and comedy at Lis Murdoch’s production group.

Smith spent less than a year at Shine and was previously with UK broadcaster Channel 4 as a commissioning editor, working on shows such as 10 O’Clock Live and 8 out of 10 Cats.

He will report to TwoFour creative director Andrew Mackenzie, developing and producing new formats for UK and international broadcasters and executive producing the company’s existing slate.

TwoFour has produced My Funniest Year for Channel 4 and Paddy’s Show and Telly for ITV1 in the last 12 months and is looking to expand its comedy entertainment output further.

Melanie Leach, Twofour’s MD, said: “It’s a genre we’re keen to invest in further and in Darren we’ve found someone who brings the perfect mix of production experience and talent relationships.”
